The Telephone Wire Tap Detection Kit contains two counter-surveillance detection units, each specifically designed to detect specific types of on-premises and off-premises series and parallel 'bugs' and wire-taps, hook switch bypasses, and many types of capacitance coupled eavesdropping devices.

One unit is capable of detecting 'series' type devices with a resistance of 61 ohms or greater (most series devices are at least 100 ohms), 'parallel' type devices with a resistance of 65 megohms or less (most parallel devices are 30 megohms or less), and many capacitance coupled eavesdropping devices.

The other unit is a true down-line tap detector, and has the capability of detecting telephone 'bugs' and taps at any point along the telephone line, up to and including at the local telephone company switch. This is an extremely important feature, allowing you to detect eavesdropping devices that are connected at a location away from the premises.

NOTE: Some of the available line tests provided by this kit require you disconnect the incoming telephone line where it inters your home or business, in order to isolate the internal wiring. Other tests require that the incoming telephone line remain connected. Disconnecting the incoming telephone line is usually as simple as unplugging it at the box on the outside of the building (the actual location of the box may vary), and then plugging it back in when you are done. Some installations may require you to loosen two screws to actually disconnect the wires, and then reconnect them when you are done.
